Make Tools – Make Marks

Learn how to make your own artist tools, and disrupt your creative process!

A self-paced course that will transform your approach to drawing.

About this course

It is easy to get stuck in a rut, to make the same marks. I found myself in the same position a few years ago, I tried all the usual things; drawing with my non-dominant hand, contour drawing buying lots of different pens and media. But it was only when I started making my own tools that my mark-making grew in both confidence and expressive quality.

This course will show you how to make and use over 25 different mark-making tools so that you can experience the delights of mark-making. With 1-2 hours of video and details of materials.

Putting marks on paper in this way helps to keep our painting loose, increases confidence in the processes we use without the pressure that traditional drawing demands. I have written a blog post about my journey, and why I feel it is so important to disrupt our process. You can read it here.

This was the first course I created in 2020. For a limited time only I am offering it to you at HALF PRICE!

What this course is not

This course will not teach you how to draw, perspective, shading etc. There are plenty of YouTube videos available to learn technical graphic skills.

It also won’t teach you how to make tools professionally, or even particularly well! This is an experimental approach to get you making marks quickly…. if you get hooked you can go back and refine your tool making skills. Whilst I will show you a number of ways to approach making tools, I hope the process of doing so will ignite ideas for your own inventions.

Why choose me to teach you?

I am a highly qualified and experienced tutor…but more than that I can teach, teach well and I love it! I hope this will be one of many workshops you take with me, all we be exciting, thought provoking and packed with information. I am known for my endless curiosity and hope that “What if….?” becomes your mantra too!
