Paintings

This series contains shapes informed by the urban environment and reflect the colours, textures and patterns I find in the city. The work is built with layers of opaque and translucent papers that I create through a variety of processes. I aim to create a tension in the work, between intention and chance, control and accident, past and present, concealing and revealing.

Works on paper

My practice involves reusing printing plates that I have created over many decades of collagraphy printmaking, by placing new against old I am revisiting my history. The process of cutting them up, inking and placing allows for the interplay of both formal and contingent elements. Once arranged they are printed on a traditional etching press with multiple layers, including chine collé, as a result each print is unique.
