MONOTYPE: MATERIALS & METHODS

A self-paced course exploring creative monotype techniques

Develop your skills and learn about the range of gel plates, papers, paints and inks, and processes.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Monotypes are a hybrid of painting and printmaking. They are often referred to as “painterly prints”. However, there are several techniques in this distinctive process which yield effects and imagery that can’t be achieved through painting. This is the perfect course for beginners, or those who want a fresh approach to their monotype printmaking.

Develop your skills and learn about the range of gel plates, papers, paints and inks, and processes that can be used to create exciting prints. By providing you with all the techniques you need to create exciting prints you will gain the confidence to keep exploring with this creative way to make artwork.

The course is self-paced, so you can do it at a time that is convenient to you, and you get lifetime access. You also have the opportunity to share your work and interact with me and other students on the specialist course platform.

This course will:

  • Introduce you to all of the elements of making exciting monotypes using a gel plate.
  • Teach you a range of approaches that you can adapt and use to develop your own style.
  • Give you access to the Printmakers Forum, a private online space to share, chat and ask questions.
  • Help you to create a portfolio of richly layered prints that can be framed, made into exciting artists books or used as collage material.
  • Give you lifetime access to the content.

The course is divided into THREE sections, with a total of 10.5hrs  of video instruction. You can enrol on section individually (scroll down for more info) or buy all together with a 10% discount.

“Absolutely recommend this course! This is my 4th with Sally and it is as exquisite as the others. Just when you think you have learned all there is to learn….along comes a new Sally Hirst course. Informative, fun and inspirational. By far the best available online and great value for money”

Materials & Methods

“One of the best online classes I have ever taken. Your instructions were concise and through. I’m a 74 year old wannabe artist who started creating as soon as I could hold a pencil. So I loved that you approached monoprinting from an “artist” viewpoint and I think that makes your class far above others. Thanks so much for sharing your process with all of your students. Thank you!”

Materials & Methods

I used to describe my gel plate printing as “play”, while secretly longing to make something which might qualify as art! This course is validating gel plate printing monotype for me and I am learning so much. I’ve never persevered so long with an online course before and I’ve moved from crippling imposter syndrome to real appreciation of other students’ work, being curious about how they achieved that print and experimenting in depth to increase my understanding.”
